{"id":418,"date":"2018-07-06T02:52:23","date_gmt":"2018-07-06T07:52:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/?p=418"},"modified":"2019-06-17T19:53:44","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T00:53:44","slug":"what-do-we-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/?p=418","title":{"rendered":"What do we do???"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Roama and I thought about 2018 and just where we wanted to travel and experience we got very excited!\u00a0 Our minds jumped all over the place.\u00a0 We were in <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-419 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/What-300x182.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/What-300x182.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/What.jpeg 578w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Italy, England and the Middle East last year.\u00a0 Do we try Asia again as our last trip to India was 5 years ago?\u00a0 Do we go back to Europe?\u00a0 If we go to Europe, do we go to Germany? Greece?\u00a0 Portugal?\u00a0 Spain?\u00a0 Back to the UK?\u00a0 What about South America?\u00a0 What about Africa?\u00a0 How did we narrow it down?<\/p>\n<p>The first thing we did was ask ourselves whether we had a bucket list.\u00a0 For those that don\u2019t know what a bucket list is\u2026well\u2026we define it as a list of things you want to do\/see\/try before you \u201ckick the bucket\u201d.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t have one bucket list\u00a0for the both of us.\u00a0 Sure, Roama had one she created years ago but I did not have one and we certainly did not have a joint lest.\u00a0 We quickly put one together mentally based on Roama\u2019s original (subsequent note that our updated bucket list can be found here).\u00a0 We finally narrowed it down to four places:\u00a0 Machu Picchu, Greece and its Isles, Spain\/Portugal and South Africa.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-422 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Safari-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Safari-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Safari.jpeg 525w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Ultimately, we decided on South Africa and here\u2019s why:\u00a0 We are not getting any younger.\u00a0 The flight to South Africa is LLLLOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGG.\u00a0 The least expensive ticket was Air France and had two stops:\u00a0 One in Paris for 8 hours and one in Mahebourg which I found out is on the island of Mauritius for almost 11 hours.\u00a0 This had a total travel time of about 45 and a half hours.\u00a0 Shorter flights with one stop are a bit more expensive but are in the range of 23-hours on KLM (almost 3 hours in Amsterdam) and 32-hours on British Airway (7-hours in London).\u00a0 We thought we would rather do this series of really long flights while we are younger.\u00a0 I\u2019d rather face this at our current super-secret ages than when we are retired in our sixties.\u00a0 There are other reasons as well, South Africa is beautiful, and an African Safari just sounds so awesome!<\/p>\n<p>So then we moved on to planning!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Roama and I thought about 2018 and just where we wanted to travel and experience we got very excited!\u00a0 Our minds jumped all over the place.\u00a0 We were in Italy, England and the Middle East last year.\u00a0 Do we try Asia again as our last trip to India was 5 years ago?\u00a0 Do we &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":426,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[43,4,1],"tags":[52,32,53,36],"class_list":["post-418","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-africa","category-international-travel","category-uncategorized","tag-africa","tag-international","tag-south-africa","tag-travel","entry entry-center"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/418","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=418"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/418\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":424,"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/418\/revisions\/424"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/426"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=418"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=418"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.roamersholiday.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=418"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
